DUAL POINTS SYSTEM

HOW IT WORKS AND THE ADVANTAGES TO BOTH ASSN’S

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE.

To enable competitors to gain points throughout the year to take to the NSRA National Finals Rodeo and try to bring back the family base that helped build this great sport.

The members of the NSRA have to be in a some form of Education – A Government approved learning program or attending School, Tafe , an Apprenticeship, Traineeship etc.

A competitor must be a financial member of the ABCRA/NRCA  and  a financial member of the NSRA to be eligible to receive points for the NSRA.

The National Student Rodeo Association is the only Australian rodeo Association recognized by the American National High School Rodeo Association.

What you the Competitor achieve/get from participating in a Dual Affiliated Rodeo.

The top 4 of each event can go to compete at the worlds largest competitor rodeo in world. You do not have to go; so the top 4 competitors can be drawn from the top 8. There are over 1550 competitors at the NHSRA finals and close to 1000 competitors  at the Wrangler finals.

The students  have there own student board and the experience and knowledge gained from this is already showing  merit with these people becoming  part of each individual association as board members etc.

There is 2 divisions

·         the NHSRA division,  this division covers the age group of 15---20years of age as of the 1st of September [ this is the start of the American school year ] these competitors need to be competing in open company rodeo’s to be competitive in America.

·         B--- Wrangler division this division covers the age group of 10---15years of age. As of the 1st of September.  These competitors are juniors and should compete at this level

For competitors in the NSRA division [open competition]

The rodeo’s need to be selected at the beginning of the season and listed in the relevant Associations news sheet as well as the NSRA web site.

The competitor will enter and compete at the rodeo as a normal rodeo, a copy of the judges sheets will need to be passed onto the NSRA secretary who can then process the points for the NSRA competitors

The points will be taken from the judges sheets of the open rodeo   e.g Jimmy the legend enters the ABCRA rodeo at Night Caps - he places 8th in the Bronc ride but is the leading contender for the NSRA competition - he has not placed in the ABCRA standings but will take out the top points for the NSRA.

Points for the NSRA go down to 10  place’s, 10 points for 1st down to 1 point for 10th.

BENEFITS TO EACH ASSOCIATION

The advantages to the main Association are that they can help increase there own membership base and increase competitor numbers at selected events. With the increased cost of our sport this is a positive move to help each association, committee’s and the competitors alike.

ENTRIES

Entries for the NSRA would be taken by a nominated person for their zone, the entries for the said association would be put in as per normal to central entries etc.  The Association would send a complete copy of the judge’s sheets to the NSRA secretary to process the points.

POLE BENDING

The only event not normally to be run on the program at a rodeo would be the pole bending this event could be run prior to the rodeo, possibly in the slack.

WRANGLER DIVISION

If a Wrangler Division rodeo is to be dual affiliated with another Association common sense will prevail. There will be different age groups in the Association running the rodeo as the NSRA Wrangler division is 10 years to 15 years at the 1st of September. The secretary from the zone will have to go over the score sheets and high light the competitors in the NSRA competition and calculate the winners, i.e. the barrel race - as long as the course stays the same size it would be easy to calculate the points. The steer ride and junior bulls will have to calculated on the same basis. I realize this sounds complicated but it is achievable.

The NSRA and all junior Associations are based around our kids if we don’t put the effort into making this happen rodeo will become something we used to have. If you are passionate about RODEO and want to see it grow then help our kids, let’s sow the seeds and cultivate our youth to reap the rewards.

REGISTRATION OF EVENTS

If an event is to be run dual affiliated we have to notify our head office in America in writing 60 days prior to the event. The paper work has to be signed by the secretary and the national director faxed to the USA  signed and sent back to Australia. If this format is not followed the points from that rodeo will not be excepted. Forward planning is a must. All the score sheets from the rodeo must be presented to the secretary to calculate the points (again if only part sheets are supplied points will not be allocated.)

OVERVIEW

The greatest benefit from the dual affiliation is of course for the competitors as their membership in the NSRA may present them the opportunity to compete in a major international event at the National High School Rodeo Finals in the USA representing their country. This is an unforgettable experience for these young people exposing them to opportunities to further their rodeo careers and their education. These young ambassadors are our future in this sport.

The aim is to dual affiliate the open events for the NSRA. If we are going to be realistic our kids have to be competitive in open company here to be competitive in the USA. And dual affiliate the Wrangler division with junior events.
